Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio plays a woman whose husband is missing in the Korean War and is struggling to cope, together with her two young sons.

One day, she accidentally hits a vagrant, Patrick Swayze, and does the unconventional by inviting him and his dog to stay with her family to recuperate.

Her kindness is returned many times over as it turns out that Swayze possesses magical powers which he uses to help the townsfolk as well as his benefactor and her two boys.
