The new music channel of Sahara One Media & Entertainment Limited has been christened hit. he company has appointed Sameer Ganapathy as head of allocation for the Sahara One Television Network, which includes Sahara One, Filmy and also the proposed music channel.
He will report to Sahara One CEO Shantonu Aditya, steps into Rakesh Lamba, who had quit the company late last year. He comes on board from SET Discovery where he was assistant vice president distribution for the western region. Earlier to that he was with Discovery for four years as regional manager distribution (west).
He said, “I am delighted to welcome Sameer to our company. Sameer has over 10 years of experience in distribution and has an excellent track record. With his joining the company, Sahara One will now focus on distribution in a major way and am sure the results will be seen soon.”
Sameer said, “I am very happy to join Sahara One and take on this responsibility. Sahara One is run professionally and has a great team. I look advance to taking up this challenge and working in an excellent environment.”
Ashish Chakravorty the head of ETC Music Business is leaving the company. He has put in his papers and is presently serving his notice period. He has decided to leave ETC Music.
Chakravorty refused to reveal any information on his future plans. He has been associated with Zee Group since the last six years. He was heading Zee Records for four years and then moved over to head the Syndication Sales & Film Acquisition division of Zee. Ashish moved to ETC Music this February, to head the channel in the capacity of business head.

More than 30 Indian television channels will broadcast a two-minute movie The Voices of India on 18 July at 6 pm and 9 pm. Its main aim is to show commonality with the fatalities of the serial train blasts that hit Mumbai last week.
It is for the first time that the television channels like DD, Star, Zee, ETV, Janmat, TV 18 network, NDTV, Sony, Times and MTV will gather to air the film.
The Voices of India encapsulates thoughts articulated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after visiting the bomb blast victims. Sachin Tendulkar, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Fardeen Khan, Anil Kapoor, Yash Chopra, Preity Zinta, Karan Johar and Nana Patekar also feature in the film. Considered as an operation for India, it is the citizen’s response to the radical attack on Mumbai.
Asianet the Malayalam Channel continues with its experiments with the prime time band. The channel is introducing a new soap, Ammathampuraatti in its 9:30 pm slot this week.
The story begins with the arrival of Lakshmi Bai Thampuraatti of Udayapuram Palace, who eloped with Soman Nair 20 years back and left her hometown for Baroda. The story mostly revolves around the enmity between Lakshmi Bai and Brother Udaya Varman. The enmity even continues to the next generation.
The cast of Ammathampuraatti includes Sreevidhya, Sukumari, Sreeja Chandran, Maya Maushmi, Venu Nahavally and M R Gopakumar. The serial is directed by Malayalam film and TV veteran Sreekumaran Thampi.
Zee TV is launching the second season of its reality talent hunt show Zee Cinestar Ki Khoj in September-October 2006. Zee has also has plans to bring back the 2006-2007 edition of its landmark property, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge, this year itself. The channel is targeting September-October for the launch of the new season. Inspired by the success of the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa series, the channel will be bringing back the flagship property Challenge this year..
When contacted for confirmation of the developments, Zee TV marketing head Tarun Mehra agreed that plans were on to bring back Cine Star Ki Khoj and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. However, he was quick to add that no time frame had been fixed as yet on the launch.
“We have plans to launch Cine Star Ki Khoj’s second season this year. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge may also come back in 2006. But, we are yet to finalise the details,” says Mehra. The production house has earlier produced the Manoj Bhajpai-anchored gameshow Kam Ya Zyaada for Zee TV. The winning couple of the contest will be awarded title roles in a movie. Zee has associated with Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts for the film. Zee owns the world rights for the film while Mukta owns the India theatrical rights.
DUBAI: Zee Telefilms international, the UAE arm of indian television network Zee TV, has set up a state-of-the-art digital studio in Sharjah that would provide locally-produced programmes to viewers in the region.
it would complement the network’s increasing emphasis on Arab viewership and indigenous content as exemplified by its Arab-oriented channel Zee Arabiya, Yogesh Radhakrishnan, its regional Managing Director, said.
The $6-million high-end studio and post-production facilities located at the iSO certified Airport Free Zone can shoot any type of TV production right from anchor-based shows to live dial-ins.
The studio will serve several purposes, including support to the new, Arabic based and youth-focused channel Zee Arabiya.
So much for those lazy, hazy days of summer. Surely, not in the broadcast world.

Turmoil was definitely the word in at least two hotspots, with some key personnel being handed pink slips at both Rogers Sportsnet and the CHUM media empire.
Let’s start with the TV guys.
A major management shakeup at Sportsnet saw both Scott Morrison, the director of news and hockey, and supervising producer Jeff McDonald receive their walking papers on Tuesday. Rick Briggs-Jude, the VP of production, was demoted and will oversee live event coverage.
The big gainer in the power area: Former programming boss David Akande, who’s now VP of Content, an expansive title that takes in all decisions related to programming, news and sportsnet.ca.
What’s behind all the changes? An internal staff memo from president Doug Beeforth suggests he believes the network has strayed too far away from its younger, hipper roots.

NEW DELHi : STAR TV india is all set to approach the Supreme Court against the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) order asking it to share its two-channel bouquets comprising 14 channels to ZEE-group’s Dish TV, india’s first direct-to-home service.
The main bone of contention for STAR pertains to two specific points. One, on the pricing of its channel bouquet, and two, on the absence of minimum guarantee clause in the TDSAT order, informed sources told FE. STAR had pleaded that channels must be shared only with those platforms that have a minimum of five lakh subscribers. “it appears to us that there may be some specific areas within the judgment that will require further clarification. Our intention is to seek clarification on these areas at the earliest opportunity and make a response accordingly,” Star officials said while responding to the order.
