The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practises Commission (MRTPC) to investigate accusation of financial bungling by the Star Plus channel in its Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) show. A Division Bench of Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice JP Singh asked the petitioner and the Star Plus to appear before the Commission on May 8.

“Keeping in view the contentions of the parties, importance and gravity of the allegations besides the larger interest of the general public, we deem it fit that the matter should be referred to MRTP Commission for investigation into the finances, chances of winning, element of allurement, misrepresentation, fraud and other related allegations,” the Bench said.

“The Commission should implead computer experts or any other person or party who may have the know-how of finding out fraud, tricks or manipulation, if any, in the game,” the Bench added. (more…)

The show that made news and created a stir when it began its third season earlier this year is approaching its end in April. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, with SRK, which opened with a TVR of 12.33 on January 22, has been witnessing a downward trend in viewership since then. STAR India has come up with a new concept for the show, called ‘Khelo India Saath Saath’, to gather more eyeballs.

‘Khelo India Saath Saath’ will be introduced in the show from April 9, providing viewers a platform to win money while seated at home. This eight-episode series will allow viewers to play at the same time as contestants on the show. For every right answer, the prize money is Rs 1 lakh.

Viewers can use the phone to answer questions appearing on the screen during the show by selecting the right option, as long as they do it before the correct answer is identified by the computer. One of the correct entries will be selected randomly. (more…)

Shah Rukh Khan recently shot a holi special episode for the game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, which he is hosting presently. The episode, titled ‘Holi Hungama’ will be aired on this Thursday, on the eve of the holi, the festival of color. As per reports, Bollywood beauty Rani Mukherji and Preity Zinta, who will be the star contestants of the special episode, were present on the KBC set with SRK to shoot the episode.

The show started with huge rejoices as its host Shah Rukh introduced Rani and Preity in his unique style. And amidst a noisy applause, when the actresses announced to donate the prize money for charity to Holy Family Hospital , which looks after children with heart problems, and Himachal Pradesh Red Cross respectively, the audiences almost went berserk congratulating the stars.

Living up to the true spirit of ‘Holi Hungama’, SRK introduced the colorful lifelines of the show, as-50:50 Ki Pichkari Hai; Audience Poll Ki Gulaal Hai; Phone A Friend Ka Rang Hai and Flip Ki Gujjia Hai! He gave it his best shot, but surely, it’s not an easy task to get into BiG B’s boots. ‘KBC 3′, hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, could not match the viewership ratings of Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.

in comparison to Kaun Banega Crorepati Dwitiya’s opening figures of 19.75, Shah Rukh’s KBC could only garner a TVR of 12.33 on January 22 (Monday), when the show first hit the screen (C&S, 4+, HSM).

But unfortunately for STAR india and King Khan, even this figure could not be sustained and subsequent episodes witnessed a noticeable decline. On January 23, the TVRs went down to 10.44, only to further decrease to 7.36 on January 24. (more…)

We all know that Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar are good friends and when Karan invited Shah Rukh to be the guest on his show Koffee with Karan, Shah Rukh decided to return the favor by inviting Karan to be the first celebrity contestant on Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Karan Johar will be playing the game along with their common friend, Farah Khan. This episode will be shot today and it is reportedly going to be telecasted on February 11 as a Friendship special episode.

Karan Johar says that he is not prepared for it and will just go on the sets and play. This will be the first time that Karan will appear on KBC as participant. Last time he was seen among the audience supporting his friend Shah Rukh when King Khan participated as a contestant on the same show which was then hosted by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. (more…)

Star Plus got a rating of 5.35 from aMap, a television rating agency.

The rating system that was set up in 2004 tracked the viewership (age group 4 plus) of KBC3 in the Hindi speaking states such as Rajasthan, UP, MP, Maharashtra and Gujarat among others.

The aMap analysis shows that KBC3 opened with a viewership share of 24 per cent, which was much higher than the 12 per cent share of the two serials (Virasat and Karam Apna Apna) on Star Plus that it replaced. (more…)

Kaun Banega Crorepati is coming back on Star TV in 2007.The programme went off air because of host Amitabh Bachchan falling ill. Star TV CEO Nair said,�KBC will be back in its third season next year and we are still working out on the details in terms of schedule, timings etc�.

The show and its anchor have become synonymous and there is no question of bringing out season three with any one else. “We still have 24 episodes remaining from season two as per the contract. But we thought since his original schedule has been hampered, we would wait till he completes all his commitments and then talk to him.”
