Story: Roy (Abhishek Bachchan) is a professional conman, who has raised his work to the level of an art. The only true thing he has in his life, is his love for Simmi (Priyanka Chopra), someone who is so rooted, honest and sincere, that he can’t bring himself to tell her the reality of who he is. But when his past catches up with him, she cannot forgive him for the deceit their relationship is built on and he loses her forever.
It is around this time that Aditya Srivastav (Ritesh Deshmukh) enters the picture. He is the counterpoint to everything that Roy is - as frantic as Roy is calm, as dumb as Roy is smart, as messy as Roy is smooth. They have only one thing in common - Aditya is a conman too. At least he thinks of himself as one. In Roy’s book, he’s an embarrassment, but one that won’t go away.
Despite himself, Roy agrees to teach Dittu the rules of the game, and in the process, he warms up to the boyish charm of his ’student’. That’s when his world is spun upside down - he is forced to face facts that are a slap in the face. Ajay aspires for a job in the police force, which is his ticket to a future of power, respectability, social status and a secure life with his childhood sweetheart Megha (Bipasha Basu). He even raises money to bribe the higher-ups, but in vain. To repay back the loan of Rs. 5 lakh, Ajay decides to kidnap a government official and settle the account. The movie starts with a deaf and mute couple, Joseph and Favvy, waiting for their daughter Anne and her husband Raj. But the car carrying Raj, Anne and their son crashes and Anne is in coma. Joseph and Favvy with the local antique shop owner come to the hospital and sit beside Anne and the entire story unwinds…
The actual story starts with the birth of Anne and the parents are initially afraid that their daughter is deaf and mute like them. Joseph’s mother Miriam assures them that their daughter is quite all right. They later have a son.
Because of Joseph’s condition, he takes Anne along with him to selling soap door to door. From an early age, Anne is forced to grow up and be the caretaker of her parents. Her grandmother Miriam inculcates in her a keen music sense. (more…)
More than 30 Indian television channels will broadcast a two-minute movie The Voices of India on 18 July at 6 pm and 9 pm. Its main aim is to show commonality with the fatalities of the serial train blasts that hit Mumbai last week.
It is for the first time that the television channels like DD, Star, Zee, ETV, Janmat, TV 18 network, NDTV, Sony, Times and MTV will gather to air the film.
The Voices of India encapsulates thoughts articulated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after visiting the bomb blast victims. Sachin Tendulkar, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Fardeen Khan, Anil Kapoor, Yash Chopra, Preity Zinta, Karan Johar and Nana Patekar also feature in the film. Considered as an operation for India, it is the citizen’s response to the radical attack on Mumbai.
