While Vaastav transported viewers to the dark alleys of Mumbai underworld, telling the tale of a dreaded gangster Raghunath Namdeo Shivalkar alias Raghu (played by Sanjay Dutt), Hathyar highlights how Raghu’s son (Sanjay Dutt again) is ostracized by the society because of his father’s past.

Hathyar begins from the point where late Raghu’s son Rohit Shivalkar is shot by his most trusted henchman Pakya (Sharad Kapoor). A mortally wounded Rohit battles for life in the city hospital as doctors operate upon his bullet-ridden body. Lying face to face with death, Rohit’s entire life begins to flash before his eyes.

The film goes into flashback and shows Rohit as a college going youngster, in love with his childhood neighbor Shilpa (Shilpa Shetty) whom he later marries. Rohit has to face a lot of flak from the society that repeatedly reminds him of the stigma attached to his family. Under the supervision of Samar Singh, special task force officers Arjun Ranavat and Hyder Ali are assigned a mission, to clean up the menace of the underworld. This results in turmoil for the underworld and also for their patrons in the political circle, thus disrupting their normal activities.

To tone down Arjun, the underworld targets his mother (Farida Jalal) and sister (Akanksha). When Arjun seeks support from legal quarters but receives neither support nor help, he decides to shed his police uniform and take up arms to fight his own battle, with his own methods. (more…)

Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty , winner of the Celebrity Big Brother, show has signed a mega-bucks deal to play the lead in a grand Bollywood musical, its producer said today.

Farhath Hussain said in London that the musical, yet to be titled, would be staged in September this year.

Hussain who has earned a name for himself in show business organising mega Bollywood concerts in around the world planned to sign a top leading man, choreographer and music director from the Indian film industry. (more…)
