Viruddh is a story of an ordinary, sixty plus couple, Vidyadhar Patwardhan (Amitabh Bachchan) and Sumi (Sharmila Tagore), who are forced to search for their faith in human values and society after the death of their only son, Amar (John Abraham).

Amar (John Abraham) comes back from London, with a UK bred girlfriend (Anusha Dandekar), which both of them, take in their stride. Everyone is happy but this happiness does not last for long.

Amar accidentally witnesses a murder and loses his life in an attempt to intervene. The couple is extremely saddened by the incident. (more…)

The show that made news and created a stir when it began its third season earlier this year is approaching its end in April. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, with SRK, which opened with a TVR of 12.33 on January 22, has been witnessing a downward trend in viewership since then. STAR India has come up with a new concept for the show, called ‘Khelo India Saath Saath’, to gather more eyeballs.

‘Khelo India Saath Saath’ will be introduced in the show from April 9, providing viewers a platform to win money while seated at home. This eight-episode series will allow viewers to play at the same time as contestants on the show. For every right answer, the prize money is Rs 1 lakh.

Viewers can use the phone to answer questions appearing on the screen during the show by selecting the right option, as long as they do it before the correct answer is identified by the computer. One of the correct entries will be selected randomly. (more…)

An Indian undercover agent, Arun Khanna alias Batra (Sunny Deol) penetrates deep into Pakistan’s intelligence service with the help of a local village girl, Reshma (Preity Zinta).

He carries out the operation of exposing the spies and returns to his home city. He and Reshma fall in love and get engaged. During the engagement, there is an explosion and both are separated.

Giving her up for dead, he actively returns to work. The trail of spies leads him to Canada where he meets with Shaheen Zakaria (Priyanka Chopra), and she falls in love with him. During his engagement with Shaheen, he sees Reshma who is very much alive and is under the care of Shaheen. (more…)

In an attempt to ramp up activity on the channel, Star Plus has lined up a two day primetime programming treat for its viewers with an extended episode that will combine its biggest ratings drivers Kahaani…, Kyunki…. and Kayamath on 26 and 27 March from 10 pm - 11.30 pm.

Star India general manager - content and marketing Harsh Rohatgi says it will create a “visual spectacle,” for which the channel is hoping to rake in its “infrequent and lapsed viewers onto the show” as the plots for the three stories will converge into one grand episode.

A refreshed programming initiative is primarily executed to create and retain the buzz on the channel, adds Rohatgi. (more…)

As the dust settles on the Badshah’s small screen attempt, arc rival in the general entertainment space Zee TV is finally showing some signs of action with the launch of Teen Bahuraaniyaan positioned to occupy the weekly 10.30 pm slot.

Taking on the top rated ’saas bahu’ saga Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus at the given time band, the latest Zee offering will have to work its way up the ladder and spruce up the network’s position in the GEC space.

Set to premiere on 26 March, the new show which is produced by Paresh Rawal and Swaroop Sampat’s Playtime Creations promises to tell the tale of three bahus, from diverse backgrounds living under one roof and against a Gujarati backdrop. (more…)

Amidst reports of its declining fortunes and speculation that chief creative head Sandiip Sickand may have been asked to put in his papers, SET announced the launch of its prime time soap ‘Viruddh’. The show will air from 26 March, Monday to Thursday at 9:30 pm replacing Anuj Saxena’s maiden production ‘Kulvaddhu’, which was unceremoniously axed to make way for this magnum opus.

‘Viruddh’ will be Smriti Irani led Ugraya Entertainment’s second production venture. The show has been produced jointly by Smriti Irani and Aditya Birla group’s media arm Applause Entertainment for Sony. Thodi Si Zameen, Thoda Sa Aasman on Star Plus, the debut venture for the production house didn’t fare well with its viewers.

Making way for the new show, the channel has rescheduledKaajal at the 8:30 pm slot. Says Sickand, “You do take chances with new production houses and new shows. Unfortunately Kulvadhu didn’t work for us. But with Smriti Irani and a host of other power packed performers like Vikram Gokhale, Sushant Singh and Achint Kaul we are hoping that Sony’s prime time will pick up.We have already covered the 10 to 11 pm slot.” (more…)

Story: The storyline revolves around three ordinary people - Shyam (Sunil Shetty), Raju (Akshay Kumar) and Bapu Rao (Paresh Rawal). Shyam comes to the city seeking a job in the same bank his father worked in and finds himself competing with Anuradha (Tabu) for it.

He gets accommodation in Rao’s house. Rao is a large hearted, debt-stricken alcoholic who owns a garage. Raju also happens to stay with Rawal. His mother is under the illusion that he is a wealthy businessman in Calcutta, not realising that her son does odd jobs and stays in the same city of Bombay.

Anuradha, who has to support her ailing mother and siblings, is also struggling to make ends meet. Seeing her plight, Shyam magnanimously lets her take up the job he was in line for. The bottom line: they all desperately need money. (more…)
